Creating A Better World
Have you ventured into an abandoned house? Upon entering, the musty smell, shattered glass, and constant water leaks catch your attention. The problems appear overwhelming. Most people turn and run. I stay and dream of what could be.
I’m in the business of HOPE.
When I was two, my family moved from New York to Irian Jaya, Indonesia, to work with the Dani tribe. My earliest memories are of the smoke-filled villages during a celebratory pig roast. My parents still tell stories of me as a 6-year-old blonde-haired boy venturing off to hunt a wild boar. By age four, I had circumnavigated the globe, a feat I would accomplish another four times before college.
The international perspective opened my eyes to challenges and resourcefulness on a scale I could never have imagined. From the poverty in Calcutta to the ingenuity of the Singaporean business leader, I saw first-hand the power of scarcity alongside the power of creativity. These intertwined forces gave me a passion for helping vulnerable populations, leading me into social impact leadership.
My first consulting job brought me to Georgia to help a struggling nonprofit find profitability. Halfway through the project, I realized businesses are simply a community of people. Each business has a feel, a mood, and an ecosystem. Putting my counseling background to work, I helped the team look inside, find healing, and find hope. With hope came possibilities. With possibilities came sustainability.
Using this knowledge, the next fifteen years continued the theme of sustainable restoration as I led nonprofit organizations, community coalitions, and social impact projects throughout America. Collaborating with communities and nonprofits, I strengthened fundraising efforts and optimized operations, collectively raising over $45 million and transforming the lives of tens of thousands. I led turnaround efforts for three struggling nonprofits leading to a remarkable 7-year revenue growth of over 1,022%. Spearheading impactful community fundraising campaigns with corporate partners like M&T Bank and Ben & Jerry's, we raised $1.2 million in funds and generated over 10,000 volunteer hours. Championing social innovation, I developed and launched an Entrepreneur Career Lab for rural youth, generating three successful youth-led businesses with a combined revenue of $68,000/yr. I even established a self-funded Leadership Training Center that enhanced the leadership skills of 48 community leaders by over 32% over three years.
I envision a future where individuals and organizations come together to create lasting impact, driven not only by profit but also by the pursuit of social good.
In the face of unprecedented challenges, I envision a future where healthy ecosystems of connection and hope thrive within our community, acting as powerful catalysts for innovation and social impact. Drawing from my extensive experience, having consulted with over 25 social impact organizations, led four nonprofits, and established two county-wide coalitions, I am filled with unwavering excitement to dream of what lies ahead. I believe that by integrating the realms of business, social innovation, and consulting, we can forge a transformative path towards a more sustainable and inclusive world.
I thrive at the integration of business, social innovation, and consulting.
